Empowering Communities Through Sustainable Menstrual Hygiene Education In Sierra Leone, periods should not hinder progress. Every woman and girl deserves access to proper menstrual hygiene resources and education. MHM Champion Mariatu Soko Foday at Aid The People Sierra Leone, in collaboration with UNICEF, SLSAV, and DIP-SL, has spearheaded a transformative initiative to empower communities and break the barriers surrounding menstruation. The initiative focuses on training seamstresses across six chiefdoms in four districts in Sierra Leone to create reusable menstrual pads. By providing sustainable menstrual products, we are not only promoting environmental sustainability but also ensuring that women and girls have access to hygienic and affordable menstrual care solutions. Beyond the production of reusable pads, our initiative goes further by engaging these communities in open dialogues that challenge myths and taboos surrounding menstruation. Through education and awareness, we are breaking down barriers and promoting good menstrual hygiene practices that benefit over 5000 women and girls, as well as 3000 men and boys.
